“No funding for the cannabis industry in COVID Stimulus Bill unless states change their licensing practices.”

For Immediate Release

NEW YORK, New York – In order for cannabis companies to receive federal bailouts or any federal protections the feds should set guidelines requiring states to correct systematic discrimination in the industry. Even in a pandemic, US tax dollars should not fund industries that systematically discriminate against people of color.

2021 will mark the 50 year anniversary of the US Government declaring the War on Drugs that unfairly impacted Black and Brown communities across this country. We must use this unprecedented opportunity to restore those communities and address state licensing practices that systematically exclude Black and Brown Americans.

Federal funds cannot be used to fund states that create cannabis laws that systematically discriminate based on race. To be eligible for federal protection, states must first correct discriminatory licensing schemes that exclude people of color.

Additionally any company that receives federal assistance should pay a portion of its revenues into a fund to be reinvested into communities negatively impacted by the War on Drugs.  ####
