FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 1, 2020
HARLEM, New York. WeRiseToLegalize is aware COVID19 has had a global impact. We uplift those that are working tirelessly to address this pandemic. Our prayers are with those inflicted, leaders working towards restoration and first responders.
As the standard bearer for social justice reform in the Marijuana industry, we would be remiss if we did not highlight the disparities left unaddressed by New York’s failure to expand the medical marijuana program into communities of color. Expansion will bring immediate economic, public health, and reparative justice relief across the State. It could have been done with one amendment to the existing law.
We continue our call to Governor Cuomo, Senate Leader Cousins, and Speaker Heastie for medical expansion which is distinguishable from the proposed Adult Use Bill, another important issue. In the interim, WeRise will continue to pursue our mandate as the community’s voice for fairness in Marijuana Reform. Across this country, WeRise to ensure historically impacted communities are afforded fair access and restoration because those communities are the ground zero in the War On Drugs.
